Colleen Hoover is sick and twisted. I hate that I liked this book. I don’t know what to believe anymore. EDIT! (Spoilers Below) The more I think about it, the more I am disturbed by this book on multiple levels, and not necessarily in a good way. I went back to find the page, but I can't remember if it was Lowen or Verity who said this, but one of them said something about a write can only write the disturbed, horrid thoughts if they actually think them or think like that. Not sure if I believe that, I'm not a writer, but Colleen Hoover is; so is she self admitting to thinking thoughts as disturbed as what is in her books??? Also, as the book goes on, there's an underlying tone of Lowen getting pleasure from replacing Verity, more than just as the writer. Lowen says multiple times in the book how she doesn't want to, but.... actions speak louder than words. Especially when recreated a spicy seen she read in Veritys manuscript between her an Jeremy and BIT DOWN ON THE HEAD BOARD RIGHT WHERE VERITY DID?! I was not a fan of that at all, that sealed the deal for me of her getting off on the idea of replacing her. AND FUTHERMORE... JEREMY FOUND THE MANUSCRIPT BEFORE VERITYS ACCIDENT? Reading Veritys letter in its entirety took the book to a whole new level I don't think it necessarily had to. Instead of getting a content, happy ending, the reader is leaving the book scared for Lowen and what might happen to her if something were to go awry in their relationship. It really felt like Hoover took this book one more step then it needed to go. I'm hoping that the letter was another way Verity tried to manipulate Jeremy, like Lowen thought could be a possibility, but I don't even know what to think.
Great author and writing, just didn't like it

i read it and just don't like the characters. the writer is amazing. the way she writes just flows perfectly. she gives perfect details to where you can imagine it but doesnt give over details. i love that. i just dont like the main character. shes a "pick me" girl. I don't like the fact of breaking up a marriage, cheating while the wife is up stairs dying, or any of the 3 characters personallies. but that's just my opinion of this book. probably shouldn't have started reading with this one. The author did amazingly with writing though. Her words flow perfectly even if i hated the book.
Positively horrific

Honestly, it is beyond me how this author gets the amount of positive reviews and clout that she does. This book, along with her many others, romanticizes co-dependency, physical and psychological abuse, dubious consent, and toxicity. Hoover makes it a point to attempt to paint characters with non "vanilla" s*x lives and those who don't want to be a mother as evil and the villain in her stories. Her characters are horribly written and her writing style puts this book at a middle school reading level at best. It astounds me how many people recommend this book on booktok and in the NYT and praise it as a thriller when this is anything but a dumpster fire. If you're looking for books with s*x scenes in them but that have an actual plot, there are far more out there that are at least twice as good as this one and that's the lower end of the spectrum. Stop romanticizing toxicity and abuse and demonizing adventerous s*x, women choosing to not have kids, and painting mental health problems as a reason someone is evil or commits crimes.
This is trash, save your money!!!

This is the absolute worst book I have ever read. The only place it belongs is in my recycling bin. I can’t believe this is the work of Hoover. It’s disgusting. It’s over the top sexually, crappy and poorly outlined story line, and disturbing, disgusting, and horrific plot lines of abuse and murder of children just to name a few. I can’t believe Hoover wrote and published this, especially as a mother. It’s pure trash. Save yourself your brain cells and your money. It’s a solid no!!
