October 9, 2020I first got this book when it was originally published through the Childrenbook of the month club. All of their books were wonderful and my children enjoyed them, but this one was their very favorite, and mine too! From the time they were only old enough To listen but not quite comprehend the story, Ive readto listen but not quite comprehend the story, I read to them most nights before bed.
This is such a fun, interactive and educational book (of course we decide the interactive parts, changing the part our listeners focus their learning on). From the obvious alphabet, differentiating capitals and lower case letters, cooperation, family dynamic and how to handle a crisis or an injury while playing. Safety, caring, bravery and nurturing ( how to deal with mishaps without overactiving/frightening our kids, and how to be a brave child who looks to help others instead of whining and focusing on only themselves or expecting extra attention that someone else may need more). Its a great time to talk to our kids about things that would bore them to forgetfulness otherwise.
The cool singsong lines and the hip and cool cadence that is balanced to work with many rythyms, cadences or styles of reading, and uses em strong, easy to rhyme words and lines that are so well done, that you can use the book to teach early rhyming sounds, as well as the alphabet order and letter recognition. During the climb or after the fall, counting opportunities, safety and disaster protocol family talks, helping others and playing together, consideration and calm, respect and obedience can all get some great example lessons in the book.
But wait! Theres more! Theres, color and object naming, craft and art ideas, funny stuff and one of my favorite parts of reading time.... the interactive part! Having your kids start reciting the chorus-type phrase, chicka chicka, Boom, Boom!! Loudly or softly or whatever Narrator decides each time. It makes a cute school/family/friend skit or art collage for bedroom or classroom wall. I had the book completely memorized, as did my kids, and could prolly still recite most of it, its that kinda catchy.
But the best part is knowing its still around for my grandson to learn, which he has! Kids will learn anything you want them to, especially in the formative years, as long as you make it interesting or disguise it in such a way they dont realize they are absorbing what you need them to know (like how they forget what you emphasized an hour ago, but can remember all the statistical facts from a conference call heard through your home office door last week while totally focused on playing a video game - let them fidget when they learn, cuz if you dont, all their focus goes to trying not to fidget or wishing they could or some such, and that closes their ability to absorb and store information often effortlessly. Works better at hone, but there are ways and this book is one of the best teaching tools you will be glad you bought!
[Rewarded Review] Get this wonderful book!!

September 15, 2023I like how fast I received my order. I purchased this book for my son 22 years ago and thought my grand child would enjoy it just as much. I love the size of this book because it’s just the right size for a tiny tot. The pages are also hard back which makes it 100X better. 22 years ago it was much bigger. I think this book is a bigger winner with my grand child as it was with my son.
One year old saying "boom boom" now

November 9, 2023To be honest, this was not a classic, that I was familiar with. However, my daughter absolutely loves this book! She doesn’t have a lot of words yet, she’s only one years old, but she says “boom boom” every night looking for us to read this to her. We find going crazy with animations and excitement on some of the pages really gets her smiling.
Fun story for letter recognition

August 26, 2023As an elementary teacher and mom, this is my go-to gift for any child age 3-5. This book is often used in kindergarten classes as a fun, silly, rhyming story to generate letter recognition. Illustrations are bright and creative. My child has had this book for 3 years and still enjoys it!
